SO IT BEGINS...

Throughout my life, I have had a keen interest in writing. Most commonly, I enjoy writing biographical fiction novels and childrens stories. On this blog, I will be sharing these tales with you.
My father, Victor Robert Hugo Boyd (Bull), was an officer in the British Army. My father was born in Ireland. My mother, Francis Mary Boyd (Peggy) was born in Calcutta, India, where my father and her wed, and where she later gave birth to my eldest sister Susan. I, Gerald Alexander Lawrence Boyd, was born in 1948 in Rinteln, Germany, ten minutes after my twin sister Lynda.
I emmigrated to Australia in 1965.  I started farming in the remote southeast of Western Australia one week after our family arrived. This inspired one of my first writings, “The Pommie Jackaroo.” It’s about a very proper English lad working and adjusting to the casual style of an Aussie farm life. There, I married and had two boys, Jeremy and Simon. They both live in Australia, as well as three of my Grandchildren Bailey,Meisha and Knox.
During their childhood, I told them bedtime stories about an English brother and sister’s adventures with gnomes. I later turned these stories into my first children’s book titled, “Jack and Dori: Under the Gnome Tree.” I will be having this book illustrated and available to the public in 2012. This will be the first of the series.
In  1987, I moved to the United States and married my wife Cindy. I became a newly adopted father to my first daughter, Heidi, who lives in Tulsa, Oklahoma, with her husband and two daughters, Kate and Annie.  Cindy and I had two children together,  Brittany, living in an apartment not far away from us and my son Jordan who still lives with us at home.
For some time, I have been working on a book that accounts my “growing up” years. Each chapter covers our time and stories from each country we lived in. It describes my younger years with my Sister, Lynda as we played and went to school. This work is called “A Privileged Life.”
I later attended boarding school in England, which provided me with wonderful tales of mischief and adventure, that will also be later shared with you.
I look forward to sharing my life and adventures with you. I would appreciate your feedback. My thanks to Heidi for introducing me to “the blog” and the many hours she has spent promoting me and my stories. Thank you Heidi for your vision and your patience with your “dear old dad.”

  1. Gerald,
I think this great. Just in what you already wrote I can see many stories. I took classes in poetry and fiction last year and enjoyed that experience, but I hope my creative nonfiction class will help me to do what you are already planning on doing. Good writing.
